Diorama of Homeless Project
The project attempts to create a scene of homeless creating structure and communities out of almost nothing. These are portraits of the homeless and their homes in Santa Clara County. There is a push between people trying to survive and others who want them to become ‘invisible." These citizens live on the streets of one of the wealthiest cities in the United States. I will be focusing on the homeless population of the downtown San Jose area and the streets surrounding San Jose State University.
The homeless are demonized, scape-goated, and looked upon with disgust for many passing them on city streets. The camps are often swept and authorities discard their belongings as trash, forcing people to start over with nothing. Sweeps throw people back into chaos until they rebuild. The cycle is endless.
